Re: Strange Fishes (Drowning People Thread)
Here's an interesting link with lots of pictures to a story about a guy in China who fished 400 drowners out of the Yangtze river since 1981. The translator is shit as usual, but I think he has a contract with the PLA to fish dead out of the river near the Xiaoxia Hydropower Project. Maybe a native Chinese speaker can figure out what the whole story is. http://blog.sina.com.cn/s/blog_6ec571020102w59a.html |

Re: Strange Fishes (Drowning People Thread)
I've heard that they use the (fairly) fresh victims for CPR practice over there, as they can't afford to buy many of the practice dummies that are employed in more prosperous places. I've taken the course three different times, spaced out over many years (the recommended procedures have changed a lot over time, particularly the ratio of chest compressions to breaths, so one needs to retake the course to remain current), but they used dummies or live persons pretending to be victims. In the latter case you can't do the full compressions as this would risk breaking ribs. As far as breaths are concerned, well that was during my military days and they had another agenda - trying to sort out and eliminate gays. Yes this was during the era when they were automatically tossed out of the military whenever identified.
