Like anywhere else, all it takes is to shift a person or group of people outside the protective umbrella of the term "human", and this sort of thing starts to happen. That's how you get soldiers taking a dump into the empty skull of an enemy. Or the stuff that ends up on boards like this one. People being more concerned with themselves, how they themselves want to be, rather than with others and how others "should" be treated, might lead to a decrease in this. Or improving views on how to treat non-humans. Anyway, it's not "over there", it's "right here", and until you accept that, you're a walking demonstration of how to get from A to B in dehumanising people, living evidence this is not unique to "those people". If you had the same socioeconomics where you live, the problem would be just as bad there. |
