A military police operation in Cidade de Deus (City of God), in the west of Rio de Janeiro, carried out on Wednesday (3), left six criminal suspects dead.

The aim of the action was to crack down on vehicle thefts and control the expansion of the territorial dominance of the Comando Vermelho (CV), the faction responsible for most of the state's armed conflicts.

The Military Police reported that agents from the 18°BPM (Jacarepaguá) were fired upon and there was a confrontation, which resulted in six men being killed. During the action, the police seized two rifles, four pistols, three radio transmitters and a large quantity of narcotics.

Two of the deceased have been identified as 36-year-old Clayton L. and 27-year-old Yuri d.S.G., both of whom had previous convictions for drug trafficking, robbery, and illegal possession of firearms.
