Yes, the shotgun is a great home defense weapon: just point in the general direction and shoot. It doesn't require the precision of a pistol round. I used to use #6 shot when I had family in the house to prevent over penetration of the walls. That is more than sufficient for most gun battles in the 7 meter or less range. Many entry teams use slug and 00 buckshot alternated in the tube just for anti-personnel.
