Sheriff's car kills man in crosswalk
This is my first death post, not much gore but I'm hoping the fact that it happened down the street from me, and all but the last 2 pics of the patrol car were taken by me will make up for it.The story: HAYWARD, CA -- A man died and a woman suffered major injuries Friday morning after being hit by an Alameda County Sheriff's Office patrol car in the Cherryland neighborhood of unincorporated Alameda County, a California Highway Patrol officer said. The deputy's car hit the two pedestrians, described only as a man and a woman in their 30s, about 4:30 a.m. while driving about 35 mph northbound on Mission Boulevard, near Cherry Street, officials said. The deputy then swerved and crashed into a parked car, according to CHP Lt. Christopher Sherry. The man died at the scene, and the woman was taken to the hospital with major injuries, including head trauma, Sherry said. Once the woman's injuries were stabilized, deputies arrested her and took her to Santa Rita Jail to be booked. Sherry said he did know if the woman would need or receive medical treatment at the jail. The woman was expected to be booked on possession of narcotics. Police said she had "a large amount" of unnamed drugs with her after the crash, and investigators believe she was under the influence of alcohol, as well. This occured on April 19 2013 |
