Sex Worker Found Dead in Bed at a Caruaru Brothel, Brazil, 2014
On the morning of Tuesday, May 20, 2014, a 34-year-old sex worker was discovered dead in her bed at Casa Verde, a brothel on Rua Goncalves Viana in the Divinopolis neighborhood of Caruaru, Pernambuco, Brazil. She was found by a co-worker who had returned from the gym. Paramedics reported no visible injuries and considered sudden illness to be the cause of death at the scene. Pills were found on the bed. Other women at the brothel said she had been employed there for about a week, took prescribed medication for depression, and had not been seen drinking or leaving with anyone the previous night. A regional Pernambuco outlet identified her as Beatriz Andrea Carvalhal de Matos Viana, known as Raiane, a native of Sao Paulo who lived in Recife. Her body was taken to the coroner's office to determine the cause of death, but no result was ever published.  ·  ·  ·  · |
