A good percentage of them probably regret they did it. It's amazing how some tough it out. Maybe mind over matter/altered state or a real high pain threshold.

Me too, I burned my finger on our wood burner last week and I swear my whole hand was throbbing with pain- this??? just can't figure it out. I was wondering if the body reaches a max of pain feeling- maybe if you're that badly burned the nerves are damaged so it no longer registers pain??

That is exactly what happens at last. 1st and 2nd degree burns doesn't damage the nerves, but if it reaches to all layers of skin(3rd degree burn), the nerves will be damaged and the pain disappears.
