There's a rule called "every murder must be closed", unsettled cases exists, but are very few.

Most criminals are caught within 24 hours.

Because murders are few, cops who catch murderers and druggies have higher chance to promote.

Within the last few years, it is becomes increasing difficult to get away with crimes inside cities in China. The CCTV surveillance network is insane. However, if somehow you know of dead zones where there are no camera coverage you can still evade cctv, given that you were disguised initially because skynet's facial recognition system is frightening.

Also there's different level of cases, if the victim was some poor migrant worker or prostitute with no connections or familial power. The case is on the very bottom, if the suspect has greater connections and the story is not generating a public outcry, then justice becomes a little bitch in front of corruption. I know this from personal experience. When two parties both have backing and connections bump heads, it usually ends in a compromise, an apology for the misunderstanding, a dinner, and we are all friends now and can add each other to an even larger network. Now im on a tangent.

The Law enforcement system as a whole has increased dramatically in the last couple of years in China, but there are still rampant corruption and glaring problems.

A death of a prostitute or a poor migrant worker is usually forgotten, unless the culprit is easily caught.

Thanks for the interesting info on culture and customs. In the Pros 1 above, the girl on the floor in the office with the bed and safe, do you think that one is just a poor villager and forgotten about?

Also, so the cops do the autopsy, then what happens to the body? Is she has ID, do Chinese families come and claim the body, like here, or is there just a fast cremation, and they hand the ashes box over the counter to the family, or what?

I don't know about that case, safe isn't standard when it comes to rented property by hookers, maybe she wanted it to not get robbed. Also safe is not popular anymore as china is going paperless a few years back. Now in china cash is rare, getting robbed or pick pocketed is going extinct. Cellphone transactions and soon facial recognition transactions dominate the market. So this is old set from years ago. I am a dinosaur and still likes cash, but if I had to guess, she was a prostitute, independent (no organization to protect her).

Either client killed her or tried to rob her and she resisted. Independent girls get robbed by the police all the time. In such a case, the cops has many ways to find out who she was(her records, her landlord, etc.)
and her relatives would soon be notified, unless they all died out.

And by 90% chance (according to stats) the murderer would be found out by skynet and cops.

Fascinating background.

For Pros 1 above, looks like the fight started on the pillow on the bed, from the initial stains, then she tried to get away and he caught her with a couple of knife slices over against the wall. So robbery/rape, she tried to flee, and he overdid it. I should have been a police reconstructionist! But knowing Akyan, he will eventually tell us the fricking bf who was her manager did it!
