On May 26, 2015, school teacher Abdulrawhim Duarae and village headman Sama-ae Musor were shot dead while traveling through Ban Baeraw village in Muang district, Pattani province, southern Thailand. The men were driving toward a restaurant in Pattani city center at about 5 p.m. when they were attacked.

Police said an unknown number of assailants in a pickup truck cut in front of their Mercedes as it entered a curve and fired through the windscreen with AK-47 and M16 rifles. The gunmen then got out and fired additional rounds into both sides of the car before fleeing. Police found both men dead inside and recovered spent cartridge cases for weapons tracing. The Muang Pattani police chief said investigators could not determine whether the killings were connected to the southern insurgency or to conflicts involving local politicians. No suspect, arrest or charge was reported.
