Seven pupils were killed when lightning struck a classroom at Xingye Village Primary School in Yihe Town, Kai County, Chongqing Municipality, China, on May 23, 2007. The dead were six girls and one boy, ages 10 to 15, from the fourth and sixth grades. Dozens of other pupils were injured.

Lightning repeatedly struck during an afternoon storm and hit a metal window frame in the classroom. The frame was not grounded, leaving the electrical current to discharge through pupils seated nearest the window. The classroom building dated to 1973, before China began requiring lightning protection on buildings in 1989.

Well, the look of the injuries seems consistant with that scenario, so I'd say your memory is most likely functioning correctly
