I want to say that he made a life out of it, but he's dead because of it

Re: Russian Treasure Hunter Blown Apart by World War II-Era Mine

People who use metal detectors are notoriously selfish and territorial when they come upon buried treasure. Take this guy, for instance - when his detector went berserk and he started digging for the object, he yelled “Mine!!!”
Next thing, there was fire in the hole. And, as it turns out, in his hole too.

Poor dude, probably thought he had the best find of his metal-detecting life…

That day, he was a death detector.
(in the suicide vein)

He was probably hoping it would be a "Gold Mine" for him, but it turned out to just be a regular mine.

But it could have been worse. It COULD have turned out to be a FRENCH MIME!!!

But if it HAD been a French Mime, at least it would have been quiet.

Re: Russian Treasure Hunter Blown Apart by World War II-Era Mine

Yeah, the puns are distributed

like hand grenades in a Russian forest.

What can I say?

The Russian vids of the students doing excavations would be very interesting on here. However there is not real gore in them, just recovering bones and personal effects. But I found it very touching, that these young kids want to see everyone finally get home to their parents and relatives, on either side.

Yes, they turn over any personal effects they find, along with the bones, to the Germans. Both Germany and Russia have volunteer groups that do research to identify and send home these lost troops. And it's nice the Russian troops finally get remembered and given decent burials. Stalin didn't care about dead soldiers. If they were dead, they were of no use to him.

After the war, when the Russians discovered former German military cemeteries, they were dug up with backhoes and bulldozers, and all the contents loaded into dump trucks and then placed at mass grave sites. If you go visit the Leningrad war memorial, there are 4 huge rows, that are the size of a football stadium each, that are the graves of all the dead, Russian and German. The Russians didn't want German military graves scattered all over Russia.
