Russian Man’s Throat Slashed then Tossed Into a Creek in Cambodia

As I seem to have made myself the unofficial DR Cambodian Correspondant, I have a story here that is in perfect English! Usually the translations are vague and hilariously hard to decipher the backstory, so imagine my glee when I found this article.

"The body of a dead Russian man was found with a slashed throat in a canal near Sihanoukville’s Otres beach over the weekend, and police said yesterday they have identified another Russian national as the murder suspect.

On Sunday, officers located the body of D**** G*******, 29, floating in a canal at Preah Sihanouk’s Commune 4, Village 6, said deputy provincial police chief K** P*****.

An autopsy report revealed that G******** was murdered with a “sharp knife”, he added.

“This is a dispute between the victim and a perpetrator who is also Russian,” P***** said. “We know the identity of the suspect. We are hunting for him.”

“At the scene, we found shattered glass from a motorcycle, a motorcycle’s right brake, a silver necklace with Buddha statue and a pair of shoes of the victim,” the report continues.

According to the victim’s wife, G******** rented a home in the commune’s Village 5.

The gruesome murder comes on the heels of former provincial police chief S**** K****’s replacement and amid an outbreak of violent crime, including brawls, shootouts and alleged assassinations linked by some to “Russian mafia”.

“Just when we thought things were heading in the right direction, this really makes everyone step back and escalates everybody’s level of concern again,” said Sihanoukville Tourism Association head D******* ******."

The Victim, a 28 year old Russian, was found last week floating in the murky water of a shallow canal near Otres Beach, a popular tourist destination for the coastal city of Sihanoukville.

He had been the victim of a frenzied knife attack, according to police investigators. The dead man had dozens of stab wounds to his back, according to police, and had also had his throat slashed in an execution-style killing.

City-wide investigations in Sihanoukville revealed clues that resulted in a prime suspect and later led detectives to the capital, where the accused is reported to have fled.

Police said they had identified a male Russian, previously a resident in Sihanoukville, but would not name him during the ongoing investigation.

Police officials also told reporters last week that, according to the victim’s Chinese wife, the Victim had gone out with a “friend” on his motorcycle late in the evening of July 18 and that the gruesome killing was discovered the next day.

New details from police reveal that the location where the body was found showed signs of a struggle, evidence of a motorcycle arriving and leaving, and smashed glass from a motorcycle’s mirror.

Drugs? Prostitutes? Hell if I know. I tend to avoid such third-world countries like the plague. I've seen enough brutal shit on Ogrish and DR from these parts
