Looks like he was holding the grenade in both hands while they were firmly pressed on the knees. That would expain why his head is missing, because he must have been crouched forward while examining the grenade when it exploded.

Some more details. He was career police SWAT officer, not a military. So called "Russian Guard" are former Interior Troops, not a military reserve. He was in some heavy altercation with his former mistress lately. In fact, when her car was burned down, a week before his disappearance, he was the prime suspect and was under investigation. When he went missing, his former mistress and her partner were even put under police protection. He was SWAT sniper with combat experience and police suspected he could go rogue. His body was found in a summer cottage near cemetery. Presumably one of his close friends and war comrade was buried there. |

well his head was missing because 100 gram TNT charge of an RGD-5 grenade exploded practically in his mouth  but you are correct, he was definitely crouched forward when grenade exploded. sooth traces on the ceiling and undamaged wallpaper behind the body are also consistent with it. Just love the way police shuffled the furniture during the search. what a mess. |
