Restorative Art - Before & After Embalming

Restorative art involves the use of cosmetics, waxes, hair replacements, and in extreme cases sometimes requires a little bit of creativity.

Before, you can see a severe discoloration around the eyes from a type of bruising caused by bleeding under the skin (ecchymosis). The eye sockets were packed with cotton that was then soaked in cavity fluid to help with the discoloration, and any remaining stains were covered with opaque mortuary makeup.

Replacing hair
Typically, only a small portion of hair would be replaced this way to cover bald spots from illness or injury. Due to the time consuming and delicate nature of this type of work, a wig is usually preferred for restoring a full head of hair as a hand replacing method can take 8 hours.
