by the looks of things, he's an amputee, who has lay on his back for a long period of time, causing these painful bed sores, all's it would take to prevent this is turning regulary, sadly we dont all have someone to take care of us, by the look of the colour of his skin, i'd say he's still alive.sad

I was under the impression that it was caused by fire. Either way, I hope to never get into that situation.
