The Railroad Killer, Ángel Maturino Reséndiz, was a Mexican-born serial killer who used the North American freight rail network to travel illegally across the United States in the late 1990s, targeting homes located near railroad tracks. He was officially linked to at least 15 murders spanning Texas, Kentucky, Georgia, Illinois, Florida, and California, though authorities suspected him of upwards of 20 deaths. He was executed via lethal injection in Texas on June 27, 2006

2. Christopher Maier (21) — Killed August 29, 1997: A University of Kentucky student who was beaten to death with a rock while walking with his girlfriend near railroad tracks in Lexington, Kentucky

3. Holly Dunn — Survived August 29, 1997: Maier's girlfriend, who was brutally beaten, raped, and stabbed, but miraculously survived the attack to become the star witness against Reséndiz.

4. Dr. Claudia Benton (39) — Killed December 17, 1998: A pediatric neuroscientist found stabbed, beaten, and sexually assaulted in her West University Place, Texas home. Reséndiz was ultimately convicted of her murder and sentenced to death.

5. Rev. Norman "Skip" Sirnic (46) & Karen Sirnic (47) — Killed May 2, 1999: A pastor and his wife bludgeoned to death with a sledgehammer inside their parsonage home in Weimar, Texas

• Josephine Konvicka (73) — Killed June 4, 1999: An elderly woman killed with a pickaxe-like garden tool inside her farmhouse near Weimar, Texas.
• Noemi Dominguez (26) — Killed June 5, 1999: A schoolteacher beaten to death with a pickaxe in her Houston, Texas apartment.
• George Morber Sr. (80) & Carolyn Frederick (52) — Killed June 15, 1999: Morber was shot in the head and his daughter, Carolyn Frederick, was bludgeoned to death near tracks in Gorham, Illinois.

Suspected victims:
• Leafie Mason (87) — Killed March 23, 1998: An elderly grandmother beaten to death with an antique fire iron through her window in Hughes Springs, Texas.
• Fannie Whitney Byers (81) — Killed December 10, 1998: Bludgeoned to death in her home near railroad tracks in Carl, Georgia.
• Jesse Howell (19) & Wendy Von Huben (16) — Killed March 1997: A young couple murdered in Florida. Howell's body was found near tracks, while Von Huben was taken to Georgia, raped, and buried in a shallow grave.
• Unidentified Female (Michael/Michelle) — Killed 1986: Reséndiz confessed to shooting a woman in San Antonio, Texas, which is believed to have been his first homicide
