"Attention all you imps and demons of hell: start preparing for the arrival of your newest resident, Celine Lesage. Celine, 38, of Valognes, France was recently convicted and sentenced to 15 years for murdering 6 of her newborn infants. That’s right folks; Celine intentionally and with premeditation murdered 6 newborns within minutes of giving birth to them. She did this over a period of almost 7 years.

Starting in 2000, Celine, who professed to friends and family that she wanted nothing more than to be a mother, would become pregnant, go through then entire pregnancy, then deliver her baby in secret and kill it. She confessed that she suffocated 4 of the newborns by placing her finger in their mouths and strangling 2 of them whom she described as “more vivacious,” with a cord. She would then place the infants, the dirty linens and all evidence of the birth into a plastic bag, seal it neatly and then hide it in her basement.

She told the French court that she had no explanation for her crimes.

“Yes, I am guilty. I am aware that I killed my babies … but it’s too hard. I horrify myself so much that I am hiding from myself.”

Celine has professed that she did not intend to kill her children, but told the court “the linen, the bin liners and the string were next to me.” She confessed that prior to giving birth, she would lay out the plastic bags and cords so that they were within easy reach of her. When Chief Judge Herve Locu questioned her as to whether the babies had been stillborn or born alive, Celine responded: “They were alive.”

Celine’s appalling crimes might have gone unnoticed if not for her 14-year old son (hey, at least she allowed one to live). After Celine had given birth to her seventh child, a boy, killed him and hid him in the basement with the rotting corpses of his siblings, the 14-year old lead the father of the sixth infant, Luc Margueritte, to the makeshift basement cemetery where he made the discovery. He testified that he was lead to the cellar “by the terrifying smell of decomposing corpses and found them wrapped up in their bags.”

What a horrific burden for a 14-year old to carry; the knowledge that his own mother was systematically killing his brothers and sisters and hiding their bodies in the very home in which he slept and ate. Even more disturbing, Celine had moved the corpses of her children from her previous home and deposited them in the basement when she moved in with Margueritte.

Investigators described Celine as a shy woman with no apparent mental problems who claimed she lived in fear of her ex-partner and father to five of the murdered babies, accusing him of being violent. Investigators could not substantiate her claims that Pascal Catherine was violent or abusive.

Celine has never refuted the charges, admitting and confessing to the murders to the police and in court.

“I realize that I killed my babies, the children that I had with my two partners, but it’s too difficult. I want to understand but I can’t.”

Celine has never shown remorse or apologized for murdering her children.

The prosecutors in the case sought the stiffest penalty allowed under French law believing that Celine posed a significant threat as she was still physically capable of becoming pregnant. But Celine assured the court that she was not a threat promising that “”I won’t do it again.” Did you cross your heart and hope to die too Celine?

Society can rest easily knowing that this woman will not be able to get pregnant again. Well at least for 15 years as she serves her sentence for murder. 15 whole years. That works out to 2.5 years of incarceration per child.

I don’t know about you, but that just does not scream JUSTICE to me. This woman is a serial killer of her own flesh and blood. She jammed her fingers down the throats of her newborns, suffocating them or wrapped cords around their necks, strangling them. This is depraved. This is beyond evil. With all of the different choices available for birth control, there was no reason for her to even allow herself to become pregnant.

And on top of everything else, she forced her only surviving child to carry the burden of her crimes for almost 7 years. You have to wonder if he went to bed every single night wondering if it was his turn next. If his mother would sneak into his room and wrap a cord around his neck or shove a pillow over his face. The constant fear and stress that this boy endured on a daily basis is unimaginable. At least now this poor innocent boy can sleep easy, perhaps for the first time since he was 7 years old.

Get the coals ready you demons and imps because sooner or later, Celine will be knocking on your door."
