Members of the Familia Myvi Club have denied that they were racing on the Duta-Ulu Klang Expressway (DUKE) before an accident that killed a couple and their infant child, The Star (local newspaper) reported.

The said vehicle caused the incident

Don’t believe what is being distributed online, the daily reported a representative of the club as saying. They do not know what actually happened. Our club is being criticised by other clubs, but we who were at the scene know the truth, she said. The female driver of the Myvi which crashed into the victims’ vehicle had also reportedly told police that it was the victims' Pajero which had swerved into her lane and caused her to lose control of her car, the daily reported.

In her police report, the 35-year-old claimed that she was travelling from Danau Kota towards Mont Kiara when she sensed the victims’ car on the left coming into her lane. Because of that, I lost control of my car. After that I woke up and I was on the road and was injured in the mouth, right thigh and left hand. I was sent to HKL and was given three days’ sick leave, The Star reported her as saying in her report.

An eyewitness, Muhammad Zaki Abdullah, 18, however, told The Star that he saw the Myvi convoy speeding.

They were racing and they really shouldn’t have. I feel bad for the family. I saw the car spinning and the other Myvi cars stopping because of their friends. But I didn’t see where they disappeared to after that, he said. A video has surfaced on social media showing the cars speeding past what looks like a toll plaza. The drivers of the two Myvi cars involved in the accident have been released on police bail.

Police had given the assurance that the investigation on the case would be done in a transparent manner and without prejudice. Fairuz Nizam Husain, 35, his wife Nova Safitri Azhari, 27, and their seven-month-old daughter Nur Firuza Annisa were killed in the accident. Meanwhile, the Familia Myvi Club members had also pledged to look after the welfare of the family’s two surviving daughters.

We have also given a donation to the family," The Star had quoted club representative Hairul Safuan as saying after some of the club members visited the home of the deceased to offer their condolences. The Star also reported that the family of the victims said they forgave the drivers of the Myvi vehicles that purportedly caused their loved ones' deaths, but still wanted to see justice done.

"I have to forgive them and our family forgives them too," said Faizznur Asyraf Husain, Fairuz's brother.

"But we want justice for our loved ones. We hope that the police will let the punishment fit the crime," he told The Star (May 4, 2015).

The amateur incident video and CCTV record of the speeding cars can be found below. There are more cameras fitted in the said DUKE highway and those evidence are still in Police and the Road Authority investigation.

The female driver is now freed with the Police bail and shall be re-arrested after investigating more evidence and eyewitness logs.

I was entering left lane to give way for the speeding cars, however they cut the lane towards me very fast. The I looked the Yellow Myvi which was driven by the lady lost control and hit the Pajero. Pajero went to the left and overturned few times.

The man died on the scene, the mother was badly injured.
