Prison Riot in Guayaquil - At Least 17 Dead
The number of inmates killed in a riot in Ecuador’s largest and most dangerous prison rose to 17, authorities said on Wednesday, a day after the goriest prison episode under the watch of President Daniel Noboa broke out. Ecuador’s corrections agency posted on X on Wednesday that the riot at the Litoral Penitentiary left 15 persons injured, and described what happened as “serious incidents between persons deprived of liberty,” without elaborating further. The agency also announced that visitation has been suspended. Ecuador’s Attorney General’s office on Tuesday said nine inmates will be charged with murder as a result. The penitentiary, located in the coastal city of Guayaquil, has a history of bloody disturbances, most notably the 2021 riot that claimed 119 lives. It houses about 10,000 inmates — double its capacity. Ecuador’s prisons have become among the deadliest in Latin America as overcrowding, corruption and weak state control have allowed gangs connected to drug traffickers in Colombia and Mexico to proliferate. Many are heavily armed with weapons smuggled in from the outside and continue to organize criminal activity from behind bars. The identification of the bodies is still ongoing. Only one deceased inmate has been identified as of Wednesday morning - 35-year-old Juan José Aguirre Vinces. |

If the nine are convicted of murder, are they going to be sent to the "Littoral Penitentiary"? I guess at least they will get a couple of car rides out of the whole deal. |

"Folks, let me tell you, prisons are a disaster. A total disaster. Believe me. We have people in there, we’re wasting so much money, and it’s not helping anyone. It’s a disaster for the people, for the families, and, let’s be honest, it’s really bad for animals too. They’re sitting there, in these prisons, with no care, no love, it’s a terrible situation, folks. It’s just terrible. And let’s talk about these riots. Riots are bad. Very bad. And guess what? They hurt everybody. They hurt the businesses, the communities, the people, and yes, they hurt animals too. They get scared, they run, they’re terrified. It’s not good for the pets, folks. We need peace, we need order, we need to take care of our pets, our families, our communities. Nobody talks about the pets, but I do. We need to protect them. We need to protect all animals. It’s gonna be great, folks, we’re gonna fix these problems, we’re gonna bring peace, and we’re gonna make sure animals are treated better, trust me. It’s gonna be incredible." |

You're right. He is saying the same thing that trump says. Calling human beings animals. I don't care what they've done. Unless they are rapists and or child molesters they sure as Hell didn't deserve this. It's not funny. Anyone who apes trump can go to Hell. Most of those men who were murdered were probably in there for drugs, nothing else
