Pillion Passenger Crushed To Death Under Truck
A young woman pillion riding on a motorcycle was crushed to death under the wheels of a military vehicle on the busy cantonment road in Mehdipatnam on Thursday. The motorcycle driver escaped with minor injuries in the ghastly road accident, police said. The victim, identified as Rupa (21), third year B. Tech student of G. Narayanamma Institute of Technology and Science was coming towards Masab Tank with her friend Srihari (25), a software engineer on the Pulsar motorcycle. Srihari apparently tried to overtake the military water tanker from the left side and lost control of the vehicle. Rupa fell down from the vehicle and came under the front left wheel of the truck, that was also trying to take a left turn. Death was instant as her head came under the wheel, Humayunnagar SI S. Raghavendra said quoting eyewitnesses. Rupa was a native of Khammam district and was living in a women’s hostel at Chandanagar, while Srihari was working as a software engineer in an MNC. “We don’t know the association between Rupa and Srihari”, the police officer said. The cantonment road starting near the Rethibowli junction and ending near the S. D. Eye Hospital entrance was allowed for vehicles one-way from March this year in connection with ongoing construction of the P. V. Narasimha Rao Expressway. The military driver, Chandu Singh was arrested on charges of driving negligently leading to death. He was later released on bail. “Further action will also be initiated against the driver after completion of enquiry conducted by military officials”, he added. Rupa’s body was preserved at the Osmania General Hospital mortuary for an autopsy. |
