The body of Javier Garcia, night anchor for Radio Caracas Television International (RCTV), was found Sunday night in his Caracas apartment with stab wounds in the chest and leg, El Nacional reported.

The motive for the killing was not immediately clear, and the attorney general's office has begun an investigation, the Associated Press reported.

A spokeswoman for RCTV told the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) it was too early to determine if Garcia's death could be linkd to his work at the station. She said she knew of no threats against Garcia.
