Photographs of Human Remains in Iraq
Human remains were photographed in several settings in Iraq during the post-2003 war and occupation. At least one scene was photographed on November 18, 2004, as established by a camera date stamp visible on another copy of the same frame. No date has been recovered for the other scenes. The remains are at mixed stages of decomposition and appear on open gravel or desert ground and in a tiled courtyard. Some retain soft tissue, clothing and webbing. The photographs were circulating by April 2010, excluding an Islamic State-era origin. No town, province, military unit or nationality has been established, and the scenes cannot be tied to a single battle or incident. |
