Re: Philippines - 20 Year Old Died from Bone Cancer
Yep, I came across that one when checking before I posted my one. Since there was only 1 photo, it made sense to make my own thread since I had so much more.

Is it just me....but I can’t stand it when they put a “smile” on the body! It’s a relatively new thing funeral homes do, and I think it’s ridiculous! Yes, make them up to look like they’re resting peacefully, but a bloody stupid looking smile is not the thing to do!

Re: Philippines - 20 Year Old Died from Bone Cancer
First of all, youcre a nurse and you are still mixing the stages of cancer? Secondly, the first real sign of cancer (if one does not get treatment or couldn't have palliative therapy) is the rapid weight loss, because you can't eat anything without medication (or can't eat anything at all because of tge side effects). But yeah, some people just give up or too old to carry on with that burden. She was 20 years old which makes this shit even more sad and osteosarcomas are pretty rare amongst younger people unless it was with an inherited disease or faulty gene. There are hormone therapues now, irradiation is not automatically a solution, chemotherapy is pretty diverse now

Re: Philippines - 20 Year Old Died from Bone Cancer
First, learn your roman numerals. iv = 4 . You don't need to be a nurse to know there are 4 stages of cancer. Second, not all cancers have outward signs, certain ones (lung, gastric, colon) can have symptoms like cachexia (extreme weight loss) but someone could be walking around with the sword of damocles hanging over their head and not even know it. A lot of my patients who turned out to have cancer had symptoms that had nothing to do with their appearance. Chemo gives the digestive system a run for its money (vomiting, nausea, mouth sores), that can cause a lot of weight loss aside from the disease process. Some chemo drugs even make you susceptible to other kinds of cancer down the hall. Some people find out they have cancer and they're gone within days or a few weeks, so there's no drastic change to their looks. My point was that just because she had cancer didn't mean she was going to look like the crypt keeper.

Damn sad. I know a girl that had it....beat it. Poor girl is 15 years old but still alive. She will have to have numerous knee replacements throughout her life. A fighter she is and we love her.
