Peter Biaksangzuala Dies After Goal Somersault, Mizoram, October 19, 2014
Peter Biaksangzuala, a 23-year-old Indian footballer, died at Aizawl Civil Hospital on October 19, 2014, five days after suffering severe spinal cord injuries during a goal celebration in Mizoram, India. The Bethlehem Vengthlang FC midfielder scored an equaliser against Chanmari West FC in a Mizoram Premier League match on October 14. He attempted a somersault celebration, landed on his head or neck and lay unconscious on the pitch as teammates gathered around him and signaled for help. He was taken to hospital, where he received intensive care and ventilator support. Biaksangzuala was Mizo, from northeastern India. His club retired his No. 21 shirt, and the Mizoram Football Association planned a memorial match.  ·  ·  ·  · |
