Patient Executed Inside Ambulance at Albert Schweitzer Hospital, Rio, 2018
In the early hours of February 4, 2018, four men armed with rifles stopped an ambulance at the side entrance of Albert Schweitzer Municipal Hospital in Realengo, Rio de Janeiro's West Zone. The vehicle was departing to take a patient to another hospital for neurosurgery. The attackers ordered the ambulance crew to get out, then fired at least fifteen rounds into the patient on the stretcher, killing him instantly before escaping. One Portuguese-language outlet identified him as Mikael Barbosa da Cruz, while Brazil's state news agency did not disclose his identity.
