PAKISTAN - 32-year-old Overseas Filipino Worker S.M.H., of Barangay Bungsuan, Dumarao, Capiz, Philippines, was found strangled to death in Upper Gizri, Karachi, Pakistan on July 14, 2021. Her remains were flown back to the Philippines three months later. Filipino woman found murdered in Clifton apartment

KARACHI: A Filipino woman was found murdered in Clifton on Wednesday [July 14, 2021], police said.

Area SHO Pir Shabbir Haider said that the body of 32-year-old S. was found inside a flat in Upper Gizri by another Filipino woman, who lived in a flat in the same building.

She told police that the victim had been living alone for the past seven months and was a cardiac patient.

The body was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC), where doctors told investigators that she was strangled to death as they found bruises and broken shoulder bones.

The SHO said that she was married but reportedly got separated from her husband recently. She was associated with a private firm which provides foreign women as domestic help in the metropolis.

A murder case was registered on the complaint of an official of the consulate general of the Philippines.

Another officer, who wished not to be named, said that the victim had approached the consulate as she wanted to return to her homeland but owing to Covid-related restrictions she could not travel abroad.

It is, especially for women I believe that in her case she needed to make a living and wasn't able to find reliable employment in her home country. There are awful lot of people who are ready to exploit anyone trying to start a better life
