Overseas Filipino Worker Died in Kuwait

PHILIPPINES - 31-year-old I.B.O., of Tilubog, Naga, Zamboanga Sibugay, died on November 6, 2022 in Kuwait. Her cause of death is undetermined, as an autopsy was not performed because her family could not afford it. She had been working there for six months. Her remains were flown back to the Philippines on November 23, 2022, and was laid to rest on November 30. She is survived by her two children.

Regarding photo and video of her at the hospital, I have no idea why. Facebook comments are written in Cebuano and could not be translated properly by Google Translate, so I cannot understand the circumstances of her hospitalization, and ultimately her death.

Re: Overseas Filipino Worker Died in Kuwait

Wait, it says her cause of death is determined bc her family could not afford an autopsy...but in the last close photo of her, you can clearly see they performed an autopsy on her....

Re: Overseas Filipino Worker Died in Kuwait

So very sad She might've been working as a maid for a local family. Gulf Arab nations are notorious for treating foreign maids like shit, using and abusing them in whatever ways they come up with

Re: Overseas Filipino Worker Died in Kuwait

Several Filipinas have asked for my advice on going to work in the Middle East. I tell them if you want to be raped, beaten, enslaved, then killed with impunity, go work there. Even when they know the bastard who did it (usually the house husband), he is immune under local law.

The Phili Govt gets a cut of the wages that are sent directly to the families, so the govt doesn't want to stop it.

I had a case representing a Filipino cook on a cruise ship in European waters. He died of a highly contagious disease, he served guests at the buffets, and the ship covered it all up, and tried not to send the body home. Only my interjection in a Florida federal court made them ship the body all the way to Davao City, and in the litigation I learned the details of how the Phil govt has horribly compromised the rights of those ship workers and cut off most legal remedies of the workers and the families. You want to support that system? Go on a cruise. Every single smiling Filipina face you see serving you and changing your sheets is working in near-slavery.

Re: Overseas Filipino Worker Died in Kuwait

I'm sorry they have to work under those conditions. The Philippine Government should certainly take care of them, make sure they are repatriated, and maybe provide an insurance policy for overseas workers. What will her children do now to survive?

I'm around Mexican trade workers in California. Their lot is much much better than the Filipino Overseas Workers (OSWs).

The Mexicans have legal rights here, and can freely walk out the door and walk over the border and go home. These OSWs in the Middle East are trapped, passport held from them, and cannot leave without written permission from employer.
