On the morning of Sep 3, after hitting three cars, a Land Rover, whose driver lost control of it, was heading straight toward an elderly woman and her neighbour’s six-year old son, who were passing by on foot in Wenzhou. At the last moment, the elderly woman protected the boy sparing no efforts. The boy only sustained bruising to his left arm, but the old woman died from fatal injuries after being struck by the car.

According to CRI, the driver claims that she lost control of the car when she stepped on the break in order to reduce her speed. When the Land Rover finally came to a halt, she said she was shocked to find that the old woman and the boy were directly in front of her vehicle.

Local police took the driver to be blood-tested a nearby hospital for possible intoxication or narcotics use. The preliminary judgment of traffic police at the scene indicates that the driver may have mistakenly stepped on the accelerator instead of the brakes.

The accident is currently under investigation.
