A 68-year-old man, Juan J.A., was beheaded on the morning of Friday. According to police and neighbours, the attack took place whilst Juan was sitting on a lawn chair.

The alleged assailant, 27-year-old Nelfi M., reportedly attacked Juan by surprise with a machete, without saying a word. Neighbours claimed Nelfi had called Juan over to talk, brought out a chair for him, and, once the man had finished his breakfast and sat down, severed his head. Reportedly, an eyewitness attempted to intervene, but he suffered a deep laceration on his left arm for his troubles.

Juan and Nelfi had apparently known each other for years. They would often sit and talk, with no known history of serious conflict. Some residents noted that Nelfi might have had mental health issues, or that he had a history of substance use.

Preliminary sources have pointed to possible personal grievances, but for now, the motive remains unconfirmed.
