Re: Ohio Mom,children Pose with Dead Father to Warn About Dangers of Drug Addiction
The smile could be relief. When an addict dies, whether they were addicted to drugs or alcohol, you're sad but there's also a wave of relief like "Christ, at least we can close the book on this." Went through it with the death of my best friend's dad. He was a good guy but alcohol and pills had fucked him up and him calling her when he was drunk or wanting money for pills was hard to deal with. When he died it was like we were sad, but at the same time it was over he was at rest. |

Re: Ohio Mom,children Pose with Dead Father to Warn About Dangers of Drug Addiction
I understand your point completely and have no doubt they are feeling relief that he is no longer struggling with a demon he can't control while making the lives of his family probably like a living hell. Even with that in mind though, their expressions in that photo still strike me as odd. My grandmother (who was not a drug user by any means) had Alzheimer's disease. Naturally she got to a point where she couldn't do anything for herself. I, along with 2 other family members were left to care for her until she passed. It was emotionally and physically exhausting and at times felt like we could have used at least one more person to help us out with everything that had to be done. I loved her with all my heart, but when she passed, I felt relief. I've at times felt a bit guilty bc I never have really mourned her passing, and the was in 2008. It wasn't that I didn't love her, she was my favorite grandparent. But she was no longer in misery, and our lives could go back to some sense of normalcy after taking care of her for so long. So I do understand. I guess my point is that even though she had passed and we could move on with our lives, I don't believe I ever looked happy about it, more like somber really. |

Re: Ohio Mom,children Pose with Dead Father to Warn About Dangers of Drug Addiction
If she REALLY wanted this case to be a real warning for others, last thing she should have done is posing with nice clothes and smiling happy happy happy. She is sending contrasting messages. There is absolutely NO shock value (that's the point when you want to send a strong message!!) and overall it looks pretty awkward. I am compelled NOT to take the next cig looking at a rotten lung on the packet. I am certainly not compelled to stop taking drugs when I see a happy family, flowers, pink stuff and a serene, well dressed dude in a casket. I am just "wtf lol". Wrapping it up, she's another attention whore fishing for likes in whatever social/forum she is on. Looks like it worked here too |

Re: Ohio Mom,children Pose with Dead Father to Warn About Dangers of Drug Addiction
I worked with the addicted. When clean they are a joy, fun to be with, funny and kind. Unfortunately the drug will call to them during stressful times and the result is what this family had to realize. Heroin is the worst...I wish there were an answer for this epidemic but there seems to be just a patch for the "Right Now" struggling addicts. GOD BLESS YOU AND WORK THE PROGRAM!
