Nine Students Killed in Songgoriti Crash, Kota Batu, Indonesia, April 16, 2009
Nine university students died at about 1:30 a.m. on April 16, 2009, when their Daihatsu Taruna crashed on Jalan Panglima Sudirman in Kota Batu, East Java, Indonesia. The students, who attended universities in Malang, were returning from a birthday party on the downhill route from Songgoriti. The vehicle suffered a rear tire blowout, struck a curb and then hit a tree, tearing the car in two. None of its nine occupants survived. Five of those killed were women. Police attributed the crash to worn tires, overloading and excessive speed.  ·  ·  ·  ·
