Myanmar Worker Decapitated in Crane Accident, Penang, Malaysia, May 12, 2017
At about 12:15 p.m. on May 12, 2017, a 26-year-old construction worker from Myanmar was decapitated in a crane accident at an Indah Water Konsortium construction site in Kampung Jawa, near Bayan Baru on Penang Island, Malaysia. The worker was attaching a wire cable to the crane when the cable became entangled around him. The crane operator, who was unaware of the entanglement, moved the machine, causing the cable to tighten across the worker's neck and sever his head. Southwest District police classified the case as a sudden death and said there was no indication of foul play. The body was taken for a post-mortem examination. The victim was not named publicly, and reporting did not identify his employer or contractor. Accounts differed slightly on the time, placing the accident at either 12:15 p.m. or 12:30 p.m. |
