Re: Murdered Tourists
On 24th February 2007, 2 Russiand women, Tatiana Tsimfer aged 30 + Liubov Svirkova aged 25 were killed. Their bodies were found slumped on deck chairs on Jomtien beach Monthol Boonmee aged 30 + Tinakorn Meeklee aged 21, were arrested. Both are residents of Bang Lamung district of the eastern province. Monthol is the owner of the motorcycle that Anuchit Lamlert, the 24 year old suspected gunman, used to approach Tatiana + Liubov. Tinakorn is suspected of hiding Anuchit's pistol after the killing. Police plan to charge Monthol and Tinakorn for abetting the crime because they were well aware of Anuchit's robbery record + plans. A man arrested for the murders of two female Russian tourists in Thailand insisted that he was not a part of any crime syndicate following a re-enactment of the crime Sunday morning. "I was robbing them + there is no one else involved," said Anuchit Lamlert, who was arrested + confessed to the murders. Anuchit told police that the motive for the killings was robbery + that he killed the pair because he was "afraid they would remember [his] face" after they saw him + started crying out for help. Police believe he may be lying, however. About 100 onlookers, including a handful of foreign tourists, watched as the handcuffed suspect acted out his version of the crime. A news article from 3rd March 2007 states that the funeral of the 2 women had taken place in the Siberian town of Kemerovo. Local authorities paid for the funeral and promised compensation to the relatives. Both women were buried next to each other at a cemetery in their home city. “We found out from our police informants the murder suspect was hiding in an area called Bo Win. We went there and found evidence, a motorcycle and a gun. We believe he is the real killer and he has also confessed,” said Police Colonel Thanapol Maneepark, Chief of Investigation + Interrogation Centre. The suspect reportedly said he wanted to rob the female tourists. However, video taken by a security camera showed no attempt to steal anything + police found their belongings untouched. The suspect said he threw the gun from which he shot the women into roadside bushes + then fled on a motorcycle. His girlfriend helped identify the type of bike + investigators are now searching for it. The police are also looking for parts of bullets in palm trees on the beach where they think the man practiced shooting. The Bangkok daily “The Nation” reports a jealous wife may have hired the killer. Her Russian-speaking husband is thought to have been dating one of the girls. The murderer used a .9 mm Noringo gun + a red and black Honda Wave, license 413, Chonburi. ******I can't be bothered to condense any more from various sources so the last bit is copied from a website. I haven't checked anything past this date though.****** On 3rd September 2007, at 9am, Judge Prateep Thab-Attanon read his verdict to Mr. Anuchit Lumlert, who calmly awaited his fate. Mr. Anuchit’s cousins, the victims’ parents and representatives of the Russian Consulate were present to hear the verdict. The reading of the verdict included the fact that Mr. Anuchit had confessed to the crimes, as well as, the presence of incriminating evidence found at the scene. The charges were: intentional murder, hiding evidence and escaping, attempted robbery, consuming class 5 drugs (Yah Bah) + carrying a gun in public without permission. The confession did not get Mr. Anuchit a reduced sentence because of his extensive criminal record. In addition, the crime was extremely vicious and resulted in a bad image for Thailand. Therefore, the defendant was given the ultimate penalty. Upon hearing his fate, Mr. Anuchit turned pale, shook violently and held onto his parents, Mr. Suchart and Mrs. Sathaporn Lumlert. He said “Not to worry.” He also said that he deserved the sentence. Mr. Anuchit said that killing the two women was a very serious crime. He regretted what he did. He wanted to warn everyone not to engage in criminal behavior. It is never too late to change bad behavior. He realised that the death sentence was inevitable. However, he will consult with his cousins before deciding if he should appeal. After the reading of the verdict, Mr. Anuchit was taken to the Pattaya Court jail and placed under a suicide watch. Later, he will be transferred to Bang-Kwang Jail. If he does not appeal within thirty days, the court will present the case to the Appeals Court. If the Appeals Court doesn’t reduce the verdict, Mr. Anuchit will be executed by lethal injection within sixty days. Mr. Tsimfer Vacili, (51), the father of one of the victims, declared that he was quite satisfied with the verdict. He felt that justice was served. Mr. Anuchit apologised to the people of Pattaya for the terrible crime and for harming Pattaya tourism’s reputation. ***Apologises for the watermarks on the photos. I've tried to search for ones without but I'm a bit pressed for time at the moment.*** ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
