Re: The Murder Of Punjabi MakeUp Artist
Manjit Thind, a cameraman, has been arrested in the Geet Brar murder case. Geet’s body was recovered from Rajpura on Wednesday. She was a makeup artist in Punjabi film industry. The cameraman was her friend and had picked her up on Tuesday evening and murdered her in Rajpura by firing three shots at her from close range. He reportedly owed Geet Rs 26 lakh and shot her dead when she demanded her money back. The body of the artist was found dumped near Rajpura with bullet injury marks in the head and neck. The deceased, who hailed from Moga, was based in Chandigarh. Patiala SP (Investigation) Harvinder Virk had said: “Three shots were fired at her from close range, probably with a revolver.” Interacting with media persons, SSP Patiala Boopathi Subrimaniyam, and Harvinder Singh Virk, SP (Detective) said initially it appeared to be a blind murder case after the body of a 27-year-old girl was found at the at Focal Point in Rajpura town. The SSP said as the cops started investigations, they soon identified the body to be that of Punjabi movies make-up artist Geet Brar Aka Navgeet Kaur. He said a special investigating team that worked on the case found that the girl had been shot at thrice from a close range. Examination of the crime scene also helped the investigators established that she had been fired upon at the same spot from where the body was recovered. The cops also managed to collect empty cartridges from the spot. The SSP said that after establishing the identity of Geet Brar, who is a native of Moga district but had been staying in Chandigarh, the cops visited Mohali and Chandigarh from where they collected vital clues that helped them crack the case in less than 24-hours. Sources had said that Geet, who lived in a rented accommodation, had left with an unidentified man on Tuesday at 5 pm. Her mobile was switched off after 5.30 pm. The police had questioned two of her women friends and hadn’t ruled out contract killing. The social media account of the deceased shows her applying makeup to top Punjabi film stars and models. Actor Binnu Dhillon said: “She was a dedicated artist and was always cheerful.” During investigations, the cops came across the name of 38-year-old Manjit Singh Thind, son of Late Mahinder Singh, a resident of Dwarkapur Ujapuri, Police Station Ghagga in Patiala district and now a resident of Rajpura, who works as a cameraman in Punjabi Film Industry. Close associates of Geet Brar told the cops that it was Manjit with whom they had last seen her leave her Chandigarh residence. Further investigation brought to fore that Geet had given Manjit Rs 21 lakh to buy a professional movie camera, but Manjit had failed to return the money taken from her. This became the main dispute between both the two. On October 31, Manjit called up Geet and asked her to meet him as he wanted to return the money that he owed her.The SSP said Manjit Singh told Geet that he had to enchase one of his fixed deposits receipts (FDR) which was to be collected from his bank located on Cheeka-Kaithal road. He took Geet Brar on his motorcycle to Cheeka via Samana-Patran and returned to Rajpura via Balbehra, Patiala. All this while, he looked for a chance to kill Geet, the SSP said. On reaching an unpopulated location near Star Enclave, Manjit took out his licensed revolver and fired at Geet, which proved fatal for her.He said Manjit was nabbed today from near Bhawat Petrol Pump on Rajpura-Banur highway and the revolver used in the above murder was also recovered from him. During preliminary interrogation, he confessed to the crime. |
