his wife told police he was out the night before drinking and when she woke up and made breakfast he wasn't in the house.
i bet he got into a bar arguement and got stabbed over a stupid thing.

It's pretty symetrical, perhaps the killer has OCD.
I think it was done by someone who has done that before. They intentionally sidestepped the spine for maximum penetration...smart.
