Re: Multiple Exhumations
for several years i worked at a funeral home making "removals" day and night for $90 a head....so i saw my fair share of dead bodies of all sorts. It is fascinating though to see such an old corpse! I am a bit surprised that they are so juicy, i envisioned the opposite- dry, almost like saw-dust after that many years rotting. super cool post! and super cool job, not saying id want to actually do the work, but i would certainly Love to watch!!! |

Re: Multiple Exhumations
they all have been buried before 1995. It's true, for the "youngest" they were quite intact, but as Bill said it was the adipocere formation that preserved them, but they would not stay that way if the atmospheric environment is changed. In this case a dry vault. Before I hooked these cadavers, I had to pump all the brown "water" from inside, and believe me this juice was there since a long time !!! To be honest I didn't plan that they would look that way it was quite a shock when I realized the amount of work it represented, compared to a usual body reduction. But it's one on many charms of this job, always surprises !!! Next month I should exhume even more dead people (29 to be specific) but It'll be different this time as they were all buried in the soil. I don't know how it'll look like... It's a strange science if I can say that, a hidden one. I read somewhere there's a farm in the US where they study the different stages of degradation of the human body. we start to learn more now with the progress of scientific police but there are so many factors that may influence any phase of the process that you can never be so sure (as a grave digger) of what you're going to find inside..... |

Re: Multiple Exhumations
the body farm is in knoxville, tn, behind a hospital. not open to the public. dont even think about trying to get in. it has very high barbed wire fences and cameras. whats crazy, is there are very expensive condos on a bluff over looking it. i guess you cant see down there, too woody.
