Strangers in life, bound by death. He was obviously used to pushing his body, and tried to do the same with his bike. |

Re: Motorcycle Racer at High Speed, Collides Head on with Car
It was unlucky timing. He was at the RIGHT place at the WRONG time. his speed would have been a contributing factor but ultimately it was the old man who "veered onto the wrong side of the road" who CAUSED that accident. So, no geriatric with diminished driving skills = not meeting death at that spot.

Re: Motorcycle Racer at High Speed, Collides Head on with Car
The motorcyclist definitely made a bad decision to ride that fast, but I'd say the driver was more at fault. Driving/riding fast isn't as bad as driving on the wrong side of the road no matter the speed. Someone driving on the wrong side of the road is likely to kill someone regardless if their speeding or not. Plenty of bikers doing the speed limit get killed by careless drivers.

Re: Motorcycle Racer at High Speed, Collides Head on with Car
I'm not disputing guilt here, Sure, wrong side of road was more at fault. I have never seen a crotch rocket rider obey a speed limit with the exception when they are around law enforcement & sometimes they flea from the police. SPEED kills, period. Controlability, maneuverability, realization time, reaction time, brake lag, stopping distance are all factors of speeding. I investigate trucking accidents on a near daily event. Speeding, driver fatigue & equipment failure are the three major contributing factors for accidents, in that order. Company statistics consistently show that taking out the speeding factor in our accidents would reduce our accident rate by 53%. Hey, I'm not anti-mudercycle, I ride a GoldWing, with a DOT certified bright orange helmet, high viz reflective jacket, long sleeves, pants, boots, gloves, alternating headlights, auxillary lighting-[front & back], & crash bar. I keep up my AMA training also. I still ride within legal posted speed limits, traffic & surface conditions. Most crotch rocketers obey any regulations and if you ride a bike, then you know the truth. For what other reason do they build a street legal crotch rocket for anything else but street racing, handling & SPEED.

Re: Motorcycle Racer at High Speed, Collides Head on with Car
I'd rate lack of driver/rider training at the top of the list. Places like Germany have a higher average speed on the autobahns than the US highway system, but US highways have way more fatal accidents. Germany has a higher standard for driver training and that's why I think their roads are are some the safest even though they travel at higher speeds. I know that public roads are not race tracks and sportbike riders need to take it to the track for when they want ride at high speeds. |

Re: Motorcycle Racer at High Speed, Collides Head on with Car
What I have previously researched about the autobahn, The autobahn was specifically constructed for high speed. IE: wider lanes & shoulders, longer sweeping curves, innovative driving surfaces-[rainwater channeling], lighting, highway markings, entrance/exit ramps, bridge abuttment safety devices, placement of road signage, etc. They also have a law that says drive in right lane. Left lane for passing only. I hear they enforce it with stiff fines. They probably do have much better training over there too. U.S. a teen can get a hardship license at age 14-with restrictions. |
