Mother and Two Sons Killed, House Set Ablaze in Petare, Venezuela (2023)
An initially reported account described the February 22, 2023, fire in La Dolorita, Petare, along the eastern edge of the Venezuelan city of Caracas, Venezuela, as accidental, with a mother and her two sons killed while asleep. Investigators announced the following day that three people had been murdered. Ana Victoria Rubio Rubio, 42, and her sons Adrian, 11, and Alejandro, 9, had been assaulted in their sleep using a shovel and a pickaxe. Diesel was subsequently spread around the room before it was ignited in an effort to hide the killings. Police detained the woman's sister, presented her in court as the accused and attributed the crime to a dispute within the family.  ·  ·  · |
