So sad that she had to die such a slow painful death because those who cared for her still believed in demons and were ignorant to her true ailment. |

Hawaiians have an odd culture too. Any "tribal" community that follows odd religious practices are odd to most. They were going to let a volcano destroy a whole town in Hawaii as opposed to diverting to lava flow because they didnt want to anger the volcano gods. Some of the most atrocious acts have been done for beliefs. I cant image having a belief system that supported the idea of harming, torturing and fucking others over for a supreme being or beings. More people do hold some variety of this belief than not, though. |

Re: Moroccan Mentally Ill Woman Tortured to Death by Exorcist
I think the final paragraph is telling of what needs to happen. Africa has a huge number of countries that still use witch doctors, exorcists, muti rituals and all kinds of supernatural thinking to solve medical problems with well established solutions. Things like this will only stop at a structural level where the people turn first to medicine rather than the local witch doctors or exorcists. So it not only means more medical centers but also changing the values and beliefs of the people who live there. That will not be easy. |
