I can't tell if she's dead or alive. Many times the "cork" keeps them living. The rule of thumb is do not pull it out. I wonder if she made it?
She appears alive. She has nasogastric or oxygen tubing, IVs hooked up. On the second picture, you can see the anterior/posterior impaling with the log. Typically, all things are disconnected from the deceased.

The location of the impaling and the angle would probably indicate mortality, maybe not instant, but with consideration to the location. That log damaged the the epigastric region including the liver, major blood vessels, and also some lung lobes.

Possible scenarios:
1) Looks like she got thrown on top of a fencepost while on back of a moving vehicle. They cut the top and bottom off for transport.

2) Somebody thought she was a vampire and did a good job with the steak.
