On October 4, 2016, AFP photographer Aris Messinis documented an operation for Agence France-Presse from a rescue vessel belonging to the Spanish charity Proactiva Open Arms, about 12 nautical miles north of the Libyan coast. Crews removed migrants and recovered bodies from a large wooden boat and several rubber dinghies carrying as much as five times their capacity. Because accounts of the operation reported different numbers of deaths, no toll is provided. Those who survived were taken ashore in Italy, while the victims' identities were never disclosed publicly.

Central Mediterranean crossings reached some of their highest levels that year on October 3 and 4, 2016. The Italian coastguard said that on October 3 alone, roughly 6,000 people were saved north of Tripoli during some 39 operations. This event is often mistaken for an unrelated case three weeks later, on October 25, when 29 people died from suffocation and fuel burns aboard a dinghy involving a different ship.

Those cowardly rats should have stayed home. If they were fleeing from a war like many bleeding hart lefties claim they do, then why is it only men on these boats? That would have ment these men left their women and children behind in a warzone to fend for themselves, in which case they all deserve to drown in the Med. And if they were crossing the Med because they want to live off of the tits that are the European welfare states, they just as much deserve to drown in the Med, because real men work for their money. If they can save up many thousands of Euros to pay for their journey to Europe they can clearly earn enough money in their home countries to live a good life. I have no sympathy whatsoever.
