SOUTH MIAMI, Fla. (WSVN) -- The father of a man who, police said, shot and killed his wife at their home Thursday morning is speaking out.
Police confirmed Derek Medina admitted to shooting and killing his wife Jennifer Alfonso at their home, located at 5555 SW 67 Ave., late Thursday morning before he surrendered to South Miami Police.
South Miami Police confirmed, before Medina surrendered to police, his Facebook page featured disturbing images of his wife's bloody body and messages confessing to the shooting. The message read: "Im going to prison or death sentence for killing my wife love you guys miss you guys takecare Facebook people you will see me in the news" my wife was punching me and I am not going to stand anymore with the abuse so I did what I did I hope u understand me."
According to South Miami Police the image shared with Medina Jr.'s Facebook followers is an accurate photo of the victim based on what she was wearing and how she was found at the scene.
Derek Medina Sr., the suspect's father, said his son rushed over to his home at around 11 a.m. and admitted to shooting his wife. "He just said that his wife picked up a knife on him, and they had a big fight, and he shot her," said the father. "He came to my house, and all he said was, 'I need to go to the police. I need to turn myself in.'"
His father then took his son to a South Miami Police station, and the younger Medina admitted to police that he had shot his wife. South Miami Police, in turn, responded to the couple's townhouse. They had to force their way inside after no one answered the door. Once they barged in, they found Alfonso's lifeless body on the kitchen floor.
A young girl, who looked to be around 10 years old, was found upstairs unharmed. Police walked her out, covered in a blanket, and took her into their care for the time being. The girl, according to the suspect's father, is Alfonso's daughter.
Medina Sr. said his son and Alfonso had a rocky marriage. "They were married for three years, and then they got divorced, and they got remarried last year," he noted.
When asked what he would tell his son, if he could speak to him now, the distraught father said, "I love you, and only God knows the reason that this happened. Only God knows," said the father as he began to get choked up. "God sacrificed a lot for us."
Only a day earlier a picture of Medina Jr. with his wife and her daughter smiling was posted on his Facebook showing them dining out. "Some things you can't explain," said Medina Sr. "She was a beautiful woman also, his wife. They always had some problems."
Miami-Dade Police have now taken the lead in the investigation. Medina has been charged with first degree murder.
Meanwhile, scouring the Internet for more information on Medina Jr. revealed insight on this man now accused of murdering his wife.
He had claimed to be an actor, and it also appears he published books, according to the website
www.emotionalwriter.com. One book was even on relationship advice, entitled "How I Saved Someone's Life and Marriage and Family Problems Through Communication." The description of the book reads: "the author provides marriage Counseling tips and emphasizes the importance of communication with family members."
Another book he apparently authored is called "Humans Who Are Gifted and Can See the Supernatural Spirit Ghost World We Live in Called Ghost Haunted Adventures." There are also other books by Derek Medina about aliens and UFOs.
On his Facebook page he lists his occupation as an actor on "Burn Notice." In a YouTube video clip he had uploaded, he pointed out where he appeared on the show. Medina appeared to have just been an extra on the show, which was shot in Miami.
