Tamaulipas State Police was involved in a shootout last week in Nuevo Laredo that left eight people, allegedly members of a criminal group belonging to the Northeast Cartel (Cártel de Noreste, CDN). However, the Human Rights Committee of that city denounced that what happened was, in fact, an extrajudicial execution in a prefabricated scenario.
The Committee announced that the majority of those executed were taken from a house on Calle Heroes de Nacataz, in the Buenavista neighborhood, and taken to another location where they were executed. The committee has videos that shows them that the scene where the shootout reportedly took place had no visible signs of a confrontation.
On September 5, the Tamaulipas Public Security Department that a shootout took place in Nuevo Laredo, where three women and two men were killed. Authorities stated they were members of the Tropa del Infierno (English: The Troop of Hell), an armed wing of the CDN.
The Human Rights Committee has testimonies of family members of the victims, who said that they were taken from their homes and transferred to where the alleged confrontation would have occurred. According to the statements made by the witnesses, who were later exhibited as alleged members of the criminal group, they were taken from a house and transferred to another property in the Buenavista neighborhood, In addition, authorities reportedly towed a armored black van to the building where the confrontation apparently occurred, in an apparent attempt to fabricate the scene.
The driver who towed the vehicle, named Ramón, is now a key witness in the investigation. He said he arrived at the scene at 7:43 a.m. at the address indicated and that the state police ordered him to tow the black vehicle. When he asked if he should transfer the vehicle to the Prosecutor's Office instead, he was reportedly intimidated by the state police.

Kassandra, daughter of Severiano Treviño, one of the people who died in the alleged confrontation, reported that the state police entered his house, beat his father - a former employee of a refreshment company - and then dressed him in a military suit and a helmet, and took him to the crime scene.
The Committee, headed by Raymundo Ramos, asked President Andrés Manuel López Obrador and the heads of Secretary of National Defense (SEDENA) and Secretariat of the Interior to intervene. They asked the Attorney General's Office (FGR) to take over the case and asks the National Human Rights Commission (CNDH) to intervene so that protection measures are requested from witnesses, as well as to investigate what really happened that day.
Tamaulipas government agrees to help
The Tamaulipas government informed that they will collaborate with the CNDH to clarify what happened last week in Nuevo Laredo.
"The Tamaulipas government reaffirms its commitment to full respect for human rights, transparency and legality," they said in a statement.
State authorities stated they have worked hard to strengthen their state police, "a process in which the good performance of the police elements will be recognized, but they will act accordingly against those who could contravene the legality and security of citizens."

Ana Isabel Treviño Morales is the name of the woman who founded one of the most bloodthirsty cartels in Mexico, the Northeast Cartel (CDN).
