A Messy, Bloody Crime Scene
4th July 2017, Phnom Penh, Cambodia - the owner of an internet shop murdered his 22 year old employee, by stabbing him whilst he visited the bathroom. The victim, according to reports had small children. The 33 year old killer's motive was apparently financial. He robbed his co-worker, after stabbing him due to his gambling debts. |

Re: A Messy, Bloody Crime Scene
I think it's so they can put in a rectal thermometer to estimate the time of death. Rate of temperature loss from the body core is pretty standard and well-documented, so I think they can get the death time within 15 minutes, either in confirmation of witness statements, or to dismiss the statements as untrue. This is only useable in the hours directly after a death. I think once the body is cold and rigor mortis sets in, they use other ways to estimate time of death. (They probably do it as a standard practice, even though this guy probably admitted killing him.) Maybe some of our other death experts can provide better details.
