Being a psychopath is not classed as a mental illness. It would come under the scope of personality disorder. Psychosis would be a mental illness. Schizophrenia would be a mental illness, etc. The types where you cannot control what you are doing or do not understand that what you are doing is wrong. Being a psychopath might make you not give a crap about other people, but you would still know it was wrong and cover your tracks if you killed somebody. That's the difference.
