Match Factory Fire Kills 30 Women and Children, Langkat, Indonesia, 2019
On June 21, 2019, a fire struck a private house in Sambirejo village, Langkat Regency, North Sumatra, Indonesia, that was being used as an unlicensed factory employing women to assemble gas cigarette lighters. Thirty people were killed, including the female employees and children who had visited their mothers during lunch. The women were trapped because the front door was locked during work hours, flames had reached the rear exits, and the windows had bars; only one small fire extinguisher was available.
