The woman who was found dead and lying in an area of the municipality of Cuitzeo last Thursday morning, was identified as the former Mayor of Tiquicheo.
María Santos Gorrostieta Salazar had suffered two attacks by 15 heavily armed unidentified assailants on October 2009 and January 22, 2010, however, had only been injured, but not her husband Jose Sanchez, who was gunned down by bullets during the one of the attacks while accompanying his wife.
María Santos Gorrostieta Salazar was the mayor of the municipal government of Tiquicheo from 2008 to 20012, however, shortly before concluding her mandate, she had applied for a license for deputy but failed to win.
At around 8:00 pm last Thursday, some residents of the community of San Juan Tararameo, Cuitzeo Township, were heading to perform their daily tasks of the field, discovered on the property known as El Chupadero, the body of a dead woman who was identified 20 hours later as the former mayor of Tiquicheo.
It was shortly after at 11:00 pm when her family met with the authorities of the Attorney General of Michoacán, to conduct legal identification, transcending the former mayor Maria had stab wounds and abrasions on her body region and on both knees.
The perpetrators of the crime remain unknown so authorities of the Attorney General have began investigations on the case.
Investigations
The attorney general's office in Michoacan (PGJE), confirmed the sad death of the former mayor of Tiquicheo, Maria Santos Gorrostieta Salazar, who was reported missing by a family member, on November 14, and was investigated by the Anti-Kidnapping and Extortion institution.
According to a friend of Maria, "The last time I had contact with her was on Monday, November 12.
Relatives of the former mayor, on Friday evening, had to identify the cadaver of a woman by the Forensic Medical Service (SEMEFO) who was found dead in a brush area in San Juan Tararameo, in the municipality of Cuitzeo, San Juan Tararameo.
The autopsy of Maria determined that she had died of severe trauma to the cranium.
This time she didn't survive
The Attorney General of the State (PGJE) identified the woman who was located in a brush area in Chupadero, in the municipality of Cuitzeo and confirmed that it was the former mayor of Tiquicheo, Maria Santos Gorrostieta Salazar.
One source said that she had been missing for two days until her body was found beaten and tortured on Thursady, in the community of San Juan Benito Juarez. She had bruises to her face and body. The case confirmed that Maria had her hands tied and her showed visible marks of torure; on her wrists and both knees showed bruising. Her clothing and body showed signs of having been burnt to the right side of her chest and stomach.
Maria had already survived previous attacks by armed groups, including the first attack where her first husband José Sánchez Chávez, was shot to death.
The prosecutor joined 295/2012-UC criminal preliminary investigations for the crime of homicide against whoever is responsible.
Chronology
January 20, José Sánchez Chávez, the mayor's husband was attacked by an armed group, but he managed to escape alive.
On October 16, 2009, Maria was attacked while she was with her husband, José Sánchez Chávez, when they were in Limón de Papatzindán. Jose died that day from gunshot wounds. Maria survived but was hospitalized in Morelia.
On January 23, 2010, Maria Sanchez was attacked by a commando with armed rifles, in Ciudad Altamirano Guerrero, on her way to an event at the City Hall. A reporter was wounded in the attack, as well as her press officer and brother.
