This is a picture of a young Syrian rebel holding the head of a pilot on a barbeque. It is unclear as to whether the picture is real or simply a manipulated image designed to promote Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

The pro-government website the photo was posted on says the boy is a 20-year-old member of the Free Syrian Army and the the head belongs to a pilot described as a “martyr.”

The caption bills the photo as proof of a war crime in order to promote al-Assad’s desire to eliminate these bloodthirsty rebels.
Rebels have been known to be extremely violent but mostly in their own defense as it is the government’s forces that have the tendency to endanger the lives of innocent people by pillaging populated areas if they suspect rebels are hiding there.

Even though a significant amount of blood can be seen dripping from the head through the grill, the face is relatively unmarked.

According to SyriaNews.cc, “On Thursday, 11 April 2013, a Syrian Army helicopter transporting food supplies to villages and Army units besieged around Maarat Noman city in Idleb province when it was attacked by NATO’s best assets Al-Qaeda FSA terrorists not with chants of course calling for a better election law, but with latest weapons provided covertly and openly by their sponsors, and the plane was downed.

On board 8 officers and soldiers, the terrorists rushed to the site of the downed helicopter, decapitated the pilots then GRILLED them.”

I find this worthy of an eye-roll or two. Propaganda during conflict is a world wide tradition
