Re: Mangled Metal. Five Car Accident.

I think we can already imagine the gory result of that accident. This post is food for our imaginations
Well from reading an eye witness report on it, there didn't seem to be a lot of blood. But he was gasping for air from what the witness said.

Re: Mangled Metal. Five Car Accident.

Here's an update from the palm beach post.

A 34-year-old man is facing vehicular homicide charges today after causing a six-vehicle wreck in suburban West Palm Beach yesterday afternoon that left one person dead, according to a Palm Beach County Sheriff’s spokesman.

William M. Melendez, of suburban West Palm Beach, was arrested yesterday on charges of DUI manslaughter, aggravated battery, vehicular homicide, DUI damage to property and driving while knowing his license was suspended.

He is being held in the county jail without bail.

Police say Melendez caused the crash that occured about 3:30 p.m. on Military Trail just south of Melaleuca Lane, north of Forest Hill Boulevard. The crash shut down all lanes on a stretch of Military Trail for hours.

In addition to the one who died, two other people were seriously injured. The two seriously injured were flown to St. Mary’s Medical Center in West Palm Beach, said Capt. Albert Borroto, Palm Beach County Fire Rescue spokesman. Another person was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries, he said. Identities of the person killed and the injured have not been released.

Witnesses told investigators a silver Chrysler convertible was speeding northbound on Military Trail when its driver lost control and crashed into a silver Mercedes-Benz, sheriff’s investigators said.

The driver of the Chrysler didn’t stop there. Investigators said he drove into four other vehicles on the road — a Suzuki, a van, a Honda and a GMC sport-utility vehicle.

The driver of the Chrysler tried leaving the scene after the crashes but an Atlantis police officer caught him about half a block away and turned him over to sheriff’s deputies.

Courtney Treasure of West Palm Beach said he heard the first collision while sitting in a nearby shopping plaza parking lot.

“I heard the brakes being applied, I jumped up and I started running because I knew there was an impact coming,” Treasure said Monday. “By the time I (got there), there was a school bus there. I thought it was a school bus initially. I was worried about the kids.”

Treasure said the GMC landed on top of the Mercedes-Benz and that he and three other men tried to help the Mercedes driver out of his car.

“We were just hoping that he’d make it at that point,” he said. “I could see where the gentleman was in and out. He was trying to gasp for air.”

Treasure said he tried to help the driver of the badly damaged Chrysler, but that person instead became combative.

And here's a picture of the driver of the convertible

Re: Mangled Metal. Five Car Accident.

I have no tolerance for those who drive drunk. Sounds as though this guy has a nice, long list of charges.
