It could be many, a 12 gauge shotgun, a 357 magnum, a desert eagle or pretty much any .50 caliber weapon, and many different high powered rifles I would say are capable of that.

Probably a large hand gun, I don't think a shot gun. It was point blank, especially to a melon like human skull, fuck yeah it pops open like that. It doesn't have to be a magnum round to cause damage like that.
